Over the years Dean has DJ-ed in almost ALL Irish venues, clubs & college fixtures in the country, plus occasional guest work in the US, UK, Europe & beyond. Dean toured Istanbul & Belgium in 1999 & New York in 2003/4/5/6. He has been active and is a constant presence on the Irish dance music scene including completing 3 full nationwide tours 1999-2002 & some UK dates in mid-2001. Dean’s talent lies in his superior technical mixing & set programming skills plus extensive gig experience and ability to accurately read & entertain an audience. His music mixes the cutting edge with the classic seamlessly. His highly successful clubnight PHUNK’DUP has progressed him (as resident & promoter) well into the halls of fame of Irish club culture. Running now for well over 9 years PHUNK’DUP has featuring the very best in homegrown underground Electronica talent, DJs & live acts and occasional appearances from respected international names. PHUNK’DUP has received many accolades & recommendations from varying music press & tours continuously. This however does not pigeonhole Dean’s DJ skills as he regularly plays differing styles in bars & clubs showcasing his broad range & love for all styles of music, mainstream or not. Dean has promoted as well as DJ-ed most of his event residencies since 1996 and managed events in clubs such as POD, Shaft, Switch, Thompson’s, Soundhouse, Republica, Sirens & Legends for example. On a more corporate note Dean has worked both in venue & event management, promotion/production & DJing for varying organisations & groups hosting specialist private functions, after-parties, gala’s, performance dance productions, soundtrack performance, specialist/exotic parties & leading fashion shows amongst others. Dean also creates exclusive custom mix sequences & soundtracks for film & TV & corporate plus mix CDs to order.

A successful weekly radio slot on both Rhythm FM & Galaxy Dublin. A monthly live mix on 2FM (Futurecutz resident) with Mr. Spring & on occasion on FM104 (Fri’s) with Al Gibbs. Monthly features & mixes on many national stations world-wide & on the Internet. Dean has managed Nova, Club FM & Super Q.
Production:
Primarily as ‘phunk’dup’ with Barry Dempsey, Dean has released numerous singles worldwide with a full album of material in progress. Solo works are in delicate but definite progress in his home studio & Virtu Recording Studios. Other music-related:
Dean is founder member of the award-winning groundbreaking DJ-live hybrid act The PHUNK’DUP SOUNDSYSTEM Live, essentially a combination of turntables alongside outboard effects units, drum machines & samplers & synths plus now laptop f/x.
He operates as entertainment consultant offering event management, club promotion, PR services & as DJ & band booking agent.
Dean runs Impulsive Music Ireland Ltd & it’s record labels (incl. Impulsive, IR2 & Landmass) with his business partner Barry and they collectively produce, promote, represent and pursue other musical and business opportunities via their company divisions.
Impulsive has released over 8 singles & EPs worldwide getting onto compilations in the UK (Global Underground), US, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, & Belgium plus remixed numerous projects. He is working on an online label presently too.
Barry has set up a fully loaded recording studio complex in Dublin’s city centre titled VIRTU Recording Studios. They are planning launches of new labels & music projects in 2008. Dean is very involved in lecturing & educational courses in-house and is presently working on youth-orientated music courses in DJing & related interest studies for MBI & the Irish Arts Council.
Dean lectures at music colleges on the music industry, DJing & production plus teaches DJ classes & seminars at locations including Virtu Recording Studios, Area 51 & Pulse Recording Studios and various works for the Irish Arts Council & Music Boards.
